Design III project—an Agritourism in Tunis village

Exploring beyond the classroom walls, one field trip at a time.

Our Architectural Engineering students at the Faculty of Engineering at October University for Modern Sciences and Arts (MSA University) explored the charming vernacular buildings of Tunis village in Al Fayoum. This excursion and workshop were part of their course 'Design III project—an Agritourism in Tunis village'. Moreover, there are some students who joined from the Grad II course to help them in their graduation project design.

Through this workshop, the students visited different buildings built in a vernacular style and saw the integration with the natural environment and the importance of this on the different aspects (environmental, social, economic…etc) by monitoring the vernacular architecture identity.

The trip was led by Dr. Shereen Abou Dagher, the coordinator of the course, and Assistant Professor at the Department of Architecture. In addition, Dr. Heba Zayed, Assistant Professor, National Research Center, with the help of Eng. Abeer Ahmed, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Shady Shawky, the head of the Architecture Department.

We would like to thank Dr. Adel Fahmy for his organization and support and also for his warm hospitality and for welcoming us to his home and workshop
