Assistant Professor Reham Mohsen

Dr. Reham Mohsen is a Pharmacist graduated from Faculty of Pharmacy at Cairo University. She had her Masters by Research and PhD at the University of Greenwich in the UK in the area of smart materials and drug delivery. She then started her Postdoctoral work at the Medway Centre for Pharmaceutical Consultancy at the University of Greenwich where she worked on drug formulation projects with several international pharmaceutical companies such as GSK - Galvmed and others. She is currently an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Biotechnology – MSA University and a Visiting Lecturer at the University of Greenwich. She is also a member of several academic and professional bodies in the UK and internationally including the British Royal Society of Chemistry. 

 

Dr. Mohsen has an extensive experience on Educational Quality Assurance as well as educational partnership management. In addition, she has received her Post Graduate Certificate (PGcert – Masters level) in Higher Education from the University of Greenwich in the UK.

 

Dr. Mohsen has several national and international research collaborations, her current research interests are in the area of design, synthesis, characterisation and applications of smart materials. She has done a lot of work in the area of drug delivery of chemotherapeutic drugs in novel smart ways. Her work focuses on selective targeting of cancer cells to safely deliver chemotherapeutic drugs and avoid healthy normal ones and thus avoid the known side effects of chemotherapeutics and also achieve the needed therapeutic effect in a faster, safer and more effective way. The novel methods proposed in Dr. Mohsen’s research provide a method of control in cases where surgeries are not possible due to the spread of cancer cells in different locations. Dr. Mohsen’s work in this area has already proven efficacy and success in selective targeting of cancer cells and is proceeding towards clinical trials.

 

Other areas of research include the study of smart particles as novel dental materials, this  work is in collaboration with the Faculty of Dentistry – MSA University where Dr. Mohsen supervises several MSc. students.
