Departments of Faculty of Pharmacy

The faculty embraces 9 departments: Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Clinical Pharmacy, Microbiology and Immunology, Organic Chemistry , Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmaceutics and Industrial Pharmacy, Pharmacognosy and Pharmacology and Toxicology. In addition to English Language, Computer Science, Mathematics and Research courses.

  • 1- Analytical Chemistry Department:

Analytical Chemistry Department is devoted to provide the students with the basic concepts of analysis including the study of separation, identification and quantification of the chemical components of natural and artificial materials. The offered courses by the department; introduce the students to the traditional separation methods for mixtures of anions and cations, quantitative titrimetric methods for analysis of different analytes in addition to modern techniques and instrumentation used in extraction, separation and quantification of target compounds. The courses also focus to supply the students with the skills to apply these techniques in the fields of forensics, environmental and food analysis.
  • 2- Biochemistry Department:

Biochemistry Department offers a variety of courses as: Biochemistry 1, Biochemistry 2 and Clinical Biochemistry which are designed to provide the students with the basic knowledge about the chemical constituents of biological fluids in health and disease, the metabolic processes in the human body and the ability to interpret the results for appropriate diagnosis. In addition to other biomedical courses as Cell Biology, Fundamentals of Molecular Genetics, Cell and Pharmacogene therapy which provide the students with the different molecular tools in the discovery, early detection of human diseases with advances on novel therapeutics.
  • 3- Clinical Pharmacy Department:

Clinical Pharmacy Department offers several courses to produce the new generation of clinical pharmacists interested in patient-oriented services rather than the traditional services and to work with the medical team in the care of patients, and to deliver the optimum medication use, health promotion and disease prevention and to perform a full range of medication decision-making functions as part of the patient’s health care team.

  • 4- Microbiology and Immunology Department:

Microbiology and Immunology Department, Faculty of Pharmacy, MSA university is committed to raising the educational level and research training of students and the continuous development of scientific research in line with the continuous progress in the field of Microbiology and Immunology, in a stimulating educational environment that informs them about the roles that microorganisms play in our health and the sustainability of our natural resources, in order to graduate future leaders able to compete at the local, regional and international levels within the framework of academic standards and community values and to improve the health of the community.
  • 5- Organic Chemistry Department:

Organic Chemistry Department aims to produce graduates that are highly sought after upon graduation in today’s ever changing market. In pursuit of these general goals we must strive to identify important new problem areas in which chemistry can provide solutions. Students in the organic chemistry program will receive a solid background in organic chemistry and will also learn the fundamentals of synthesis, manufacture and use of drugs. Organic chemistry being the students first gate in pharmacy, offers PC111, PC112 and PHC213 that paves the way to the pharmaceutical chemistry, biochemistry and phytochemistry programs. The fourth year project course gives students direct involvement in research and encourages the core values of scientific literacy, integrity, and transparency to promote a culture of collaboration and safety.
  • 6- Pharmaceutical Chemistry Department:

Pharmaceutical Chemistry Department aims to produce graduates that are competent in the field and are capable of achieving and maintaining the highest standards within the continuously evolving field of pharmaceutical practices. Students are exposed the chemistry of the different pharmaceutical drug classes, allowing them to understand and predict the differences in biological activities according to SAR studies. Moreover, they are also introduced to the basic principles and the latest techniques of drug design and discovery, as well as lead optimization. Finally, the students are also taught the techniques and methods used for the synthesis and analysis of pharmaceutical compounds.
  • 7- Pharmaceutics and Industrial Pharmacy Department:

Pharmaceutics and Industrial Pharmacy Department Faculty of Pharmacy, MSA University conducts high-quality education for undergraduate, including the science of dosage form design and its performance. The teaching program allows students to have full information about all drug dosage forms presented in pharmacy, their principle, formulation, evaluation and application that is targeted towards improving patient compliance and minimizing drug toxicity. Different scientific disciplines are promoted to undergraduates including; physical pharmacy and relationship between the drug physicochemical properties and drug design to reach optimized dosage form. The program also serves bio-pharmaceutics and pharmacokinetics course that offer the students with complete understanding for drug absorptions, distributions, metabolism, and eliminations that happen during the course of drug treatment. Industrial pharmacy includes research, manufacturing, marketing, distribution of the drug developed along with quality control to solve the industrial problems and develop the pharmaceutical products. The department extends to optimize the teaching process and students level through upgrading the courses and graduation project research topics. Advanced drug or gene delivery systems, computer-aided process design, registration of generic products, marketing and cosmetic courses are submitted to students.
  • 8- Pharmacognosy Department:

Pharmacognosy Department offers various courses in Pharmacognosy as a part of the 5-year B.Sc Pharmaceutical Sciences degree programme, these courses are planned to provide the students with the most recent developments in areas dealing with the nature, chemical composition, therapeutic uses and analysis of drugs from natural sources
  • 9- Pharmacology and Toxicology Department:

Pharmacology and Toxicology Department applies innovative strategies to effectively communicate the current state of knowledge in the pharmacology and toxicology field to students and improve the understanding of the interactions of chemicals and drugs with living systems using multidisciplinary programs range from those that determine the effects of chemical agents upon subcellular mechanisms, to those that address the potential hazards of pesticides and herbicides, to those that focus on the treatment and prevention of major diseases by drug therapy. Pharmacologists are also involved in molecular modeling of drugs, and the use of drugs as tools to dissect aspects of cell function. The department provides outstanding training for students who may subsequently go on to exciting research, regulation and administration in the field of academic, industrial, and healthcare management
