MSA Arts & Design student story of fashion, culture and travel in Stockholm

Exhibitions were held on fashion, folk art, textiles, furniture, table settings, jewellery and life and work in Sweden.

The Stockholm trip started with a workshop that was held in the Faculty of Arts and Design for fashion students. It was mainly a competition based on lectures by Hans Jansson – a Swedish fashion designer- and Louis Wallenberg –an instructor at the faculty of fashion in Stockholm- for five days about different cultures. For each lecture, students were assigned to design garments or supplements inspired from the lecture and to discuss the designs the next day with Hans and Louis. The aim of the workshop was to choose the one of us –the winner of the competition- and travel to Stockholm, Sweden to attend the fashion week. Months after the workshop the Swedish Embassy in Cairo sent MSA students invitations for the exhibition they made there presenting our work done during the workshop. On that day they announced the name of the one who they chose to travel to Stockholm and it was me.The trip was from 23rd of August to 29th of the same month. On the 23rd I took my flight from Cairo Airport to Sweden passing by Zurich, Switzerland and then heading to Sweden. The 1st day at 9.30am Hans and Louis came to the hotel and took us –Riham Mazen, a journalist in Al Ahram newspaper and me- to start the program. I attended Ida Sjöstedt Fashion Show at Berns Stora Salongen, Swedish Fashion Talents at Kulturhuset and then Meeting with Anna Karin Celsing, Chairman of the Board of the Swedish broadcasting SVT. Then had lunch at Vasamuseets Restaurang (sponsored by the restaurant), where I had the first Swedish dish and it was really nice. After wards we went to Nordiska museet, Sweden´s largest museum of cultural history. Exhibitions were held on fashion, folk art, textiles, furniture, table settings, jewellery and life and work in Sweden.Later we been to the old town of Stockholm where the streets are narrow and there are a lot of souvenir shops there.
